Since the city has a crappy bond rating, God only knows what the bonds will cost. While Hearbreak Hotel is a convenience for ME, it should no longer be a burden for taxpayers. Last evening, I said to council that the taxpayers of this city are tapped out. We’re lucky we have the funds to pay garbagemen.

Thanks, Mike – I hope so. Enough of them have made enough recent comments to make me think at least a majority of four do not favor any additional public money for the hotel.

But over the last week, a lot of voices have popped up saying the City can’t abandon the hotel now. Will those members of Council stay firm? I don’t know, but hope they will.

I hope that is not what they are thinking. Treating this as a large “credit card” purchase is irresponsible to the taxpayers. It’s still over $3,000,000 no matter how you choose to look at it.

Maybe Council will surprise everyone and do the right thing.

Absolutely right, Moe. I also think that the Local Finance Board might not be thrilled with the idea of bonding another several million for the place, and might turn the request down outright. They may have had enough of this.

But Council can end this comedy now, if they choose. And, after last night, they have really given themselves few alternatives: they’ll vote down cops but vote in favor of new wallpaper and a new bar?

I don’t think so.

What stops the state from saying, next year: “Hey you had $3 million dump down the hole called the LYCDC, so this year you get $3 million less.”

Remember, the $3 million is not only the tax money of the city’s residents. It is from every tax payer in the state.

Sell it now. It is irresponsible to keep it!

Its time to put the nails into the coffin, the Hotel is dead. who would come to Trenton to become target practice for our wannabee gangster’s

I have a great respect for the chamber of commerce, maybe one of their members could take over the ownership of the Hotel.

ownership not management, their is a difference.

the bigger question is who sold/bought those bonds for the Hotel, did they not do a cost analysis. i would really like to see that spreadsheet.

Does Hutchinson know the rules? Kevin, he stated very clearly that the $200,000 needed DCA approval. That’s when McBride had her hissy fit about who is the mayor or not. I don’t think anyone knows what is going on and how. And the reasoning behind the pep rally at the ball park does not impress me. Still pissed about that decision. I just hope the Argives realize elections are less than a year away; anyone running for their seats can make a lot hay out of a decision to, “save,” the hotel.

Thanks, Ed – So he didn’t offer much description of what he actually did in Federal service? Hmmm, I’d still like to know what his job descriptions actually were.

And woe to him if he confuses the City with the Schools. The operation of the school district, and its budget, is really outside mayoral authority. The school Board (and its state-appointed minder) control that. Beyond appointing Board members, the Mayor and Council don’t really have much to do.

And if he thinks there are vast amounts of untouched cash around, I’d like to see him point to some.

No, he has only federal experience, never been elected to any position, he was critical of the current city hall gov. but thats an easy target.

when i asked him what his plans were, he gave no specifics other than vague accounting principles, he thinks that city hall has vast amounts of “cash’ that is not being utilized, ala the 130 mil the school system had (and not used) that our gov snatched away.

again he could be a decent candidate if he has some NJ hands-on gov experience.
